Kwita Izina, the Rwandan ceremony of giving a name to a newborn baby gorilla, is a welcome tradition for local Rwandese. The event is a celebration of the success of Gorilla conservation through the public naming of the newly borns. It highlights one of Rwanda’s main attractions, while educating the public about Mountain Gorilla conservation and protecting the environment in which they thrive.
Last year 17 baby gorillas were named during the ceremony. This year Kwita Izina will take place on Saturday June 22nd.
Book your last minute adventure and combine Kwita Izina with a stay in the magnificent Virunga Lodge and gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda, through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga range of volcanoes!
