Introduction of VAT on Upcountry Hotels and Lodges in Uganda

Update from Volcanoes Safaris on the Introduction of VAT on Upcountry Hotels and Lodges in Uganda 11/7/2014

Dear colleague/client,

As you may be aware, the Government of Uganda announced recently that from 1 July 2014, 18% Value Added Tax would be imposed on all accommodation, food and beverage sales in upcountry lodges and hotels. The Tourism industry has vigorously opposed this move and made the government aware of the negative implications of introducing such a tax but to no avail.

Volcanoes Safaris has no alternative but to apply this new tax on all existing and new bookings with immediate effect. For safaris departing and for accommodation booked from 15 July 2014 Volcanoes Safaris will be issuing a supplementary invoice for the VAT due on the booking. We request that the additional amount is paid with the final balance of your existing invoice.

We regret the need to do this without notice but this matter is outside our control.

To lessen the financial impact of this decision, Volcanoes Safaris has generally maintained last year’s prices.

For any enquires please refer to your sales consultant.
