In Memory of Mzee Yusuf Muliima Mubiru

Volcanoes Safaris is deeply saddened by the passing of Mzee Yusuf Muliima Mubiru, our friend, colleague, and resident director who passed away yesterday.

Mzee Yusuf was a crucial part of Volcanoes Safaris from our beginning in 1997. He played an important role in shaping the company's operations during its early years.

He was one of the few people who had worked in tourism through the difficult days in Uganda. In 1992 he was working at SM tours and organised my trip to the Rwenzoris. The country was just opening for tourism. Often you had to pitch an igloo tent in the bush and carry your Primus stove, dry foods and road runner chicken.

His quiet spirit, his guiding hand and his mentoring of the young staff in the Volcanoes Safaris was essential in laying the foundation of the company. His hard work, dedication, integrity, and commitment was instrumental in developing a culture of excellence.

Throughout his life, Mzee Yusuf was respected for his humility, kindness, and wisdom. He had an unwavering sense of responsibility and was widely respected by everyone in the tourism industry. He was a leading member of the newly set up AUTO Executive and helped build up the industry.

He touched the lives of many through his warmth, guidance and community spirit. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember him as a man of great dignity and humble character. His contributions extended far beyond Volcanoes Safaris. 

On behalf of everyone at Volcanoes Safaris, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, his family, and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. We all mourn his loss.

As we bid him farewell today at his burial we honor his memory and celebrate a life well lived and a legacy that will endure.

May he rest in peace.
