Tribute to Sir David Attenborough on his 100th birthday

08 May 2026

"I was lucky enough to walk in the foothills of the Virungas near Mgahinga in Uganda in the 1960s with my father, around the time that Dian Fossey began her pioneering research on mountain gorillas. That was the beginning of my life long connection with the world of great apes.

Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday is a timely reminder of the continuing inspiration he has provided through his films to get involved in protecting wildlife and wilderness.

In 1997, I returned to pitch a tent at Mgahinga which became the beginning of Mount Gahinga Lodge and Volcanoes Safaris. Today, Volcanoes Safaris specialise in gorilla and chimpanzee ecotourism and conservation based around our lodges in Rwanda and Uganda.

We pay tribute to Sir David's lifelong commitment to remind humans of their responsibility to look after the natural world." – Praveen Moman Volcanoes Safaris Founder.

Volcanoes Safaris is honoured to have donated a 7-night gorilla safari at Virunga Lodge in Rwanda and Mount Gahinga Lodge in Uganda to mark the launch of 'A Gorilla Story' narrated by David Attenborough to support WWF-UK, Fauna & Flora and the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund work on mountain gorilla conservation.
