Come and see the lost chimpanzees of Kyambura Gorge...
Book a safari with two nights or more at Kyambura Gorge Lodge from 5th April to 31st December and get an extra night free!
In honour of the lost chimps of Kyambura, Volcanoes Safaris is delighted to announce a special offer at Kyambura Gorge Lodge for the rest of 2014. Terms and conditions apply.
The Kyambura Gorge Lodge is a celebration of contemporary Africa. Originally a coffee store, the main lodge building has been sensitively restored to become a unique contemporary eco-luxury lodge with stunning views of Queen Elizabeth National Park and the magnificent Rwenzori Mountains.
Wildlife activities range from chimpanzee trekking in the atmospheric Kyambura Gorge to spotting a wide variety of savannah game and a huge selection of bird species, often best seen on the banks of the Kazinga Channel and on the open plains of Uganda’s second-largest National Park.
There are also a host of Volcanoes-only activities at the lodge, run by the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT), which connects guests to the conservation of wildlife and to the communities nearby.

Tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor is nothing short of exhilarating. The chimps effortlessly cross and scamper through the trees above the gorge, and visitors on the other hand must cross the river using natural bridges in order to keep up with the chimps. So although the walk usually lasts only 2–3 hours, descending the steep gorge and crossing the log bridges over the river requires some agility and fitness.
Chimpanzee tracking is also available in nearby Kalinzu, a forest reserve 30 minutes drive from Kyambura Gorge Lodge where there is a community of about 40 habituated chimpanzees.
