Each year, Thrillist publishes its annual guide to fun and adventure for the year ahead – The Thrillist 50. Think of it as a comprehensive roadmap of exciting events and must-see attractions happening over the next 12 months.
This year, we are happy to see Volcanoes Safaris featured in the awe-inspiring line up of places and experiences not to be missed. Check out the full article here and learn of Vanita Salisbury’s eventful visit to Uganda and Rwanda where she had the unique opportunity to trek the majestic mountain gorillas. Vanita stayed at two of our award-winning lodges during her trip – Virunga Lodge in Rwanda and Bwindi Lodge in Uganda. Two of Africa’s most loved lodges and definitely a bucket list experience for any adventure seeker!
Tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor is nothing short of exhilarating. The chimps effortlessly cross and scamper through the trees above the gorge, and visitors on the other hand must cross the river using natural bridges in order to keep up with the chimps. So although the walk usually lasts only 2–3 hours, descending the steep gorge and crossing the log bridges over the river requires some agility and fitness.
Chimpanzee tracking is also available in nearby Kalinzu, a forest reserve 30 minutes drive from Kyambura Gorge Lodge where there is a community of about 40 habituated chimpanzees.
